Printing without a plan and no demand.
Often new self publishers with strong desire and little experience think the only path to a self published book is to spend $5000 or more to purchase a print run of a lot of books. Books that they then stack in a spare room or their garage. A new day has dawned and there are several options available. At the time of this writing, there are three viable choices or paths to publish a book yourself. Before I tell you about those, there are some self publishers that have decided to go totally digital and publish only ebooks. Then there are others like myself that use an assortment of choices. The top three choices are Lightning Source, CreateSpace or a print on demand company. There are pros and cons to each choice. Investing in costly services with little return in sight.
If you choose the print on demand, for your information, most publish on demand service companies make their biggest profit on the publishing package deal and opt in services. They know the majority of self publishers will only sell a few books. So some will try to sell you on services that will make little difference to the success of your book. Services that you can easily affordably outsource or do yourself at no cost.
Stick-your-head-in-the-sand marketing.
Let’s be clear; if you truly want to share your message with others, you must market your book. Simply put, you have to let others know about it before they can buy it. Since then, I fell in love with Internet Marketing and the results it brings me. Even so, I caution you to intertwine your offline marketing with your online marketing. Keep your methods diverse to get the best results, long term.
I admit it; getting started writing a book can be challenging to most. Even so, it doesn’t have to stay that way. You can do like I did; use the tips and secrets above to kick start writing your book. Start today; complete and release your significant message to the world. It’s faster to write and publish a book if you know how. People are looking for practical information and knowledge that you have. Don’t let your ideas, knowledge and expertise fade away.
